What is a Sontaj Puzzle?

Sontaj is a puzzle game that is very much like Sudoku. It uses letters inside circles instead of numbers. Sometimes the game will use both letters and numbers.

To win the game, you must fill in the grid using logic. You have to find the missing letters without repeating any.

The Grid Layout

  • The game board is a big grid.
  • It has 9 rows going across.
  • It has 9 columns going down.
  • It has 9 smaller squares inside it.

The Main Rules

  • You must use nine letters from A to I (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I).
  • Every row must have all 9 letters.
  • Every column must have all 9 letters.
  • Every small square must have all 9 letters.
  • Never repeat a letter in any row, column, or square.
  • There is no special alphabetical order. The letters can be in any sequence.

Step-by-Step Instructions to Play

Step 1: Find a row or column with missing letters

Look for a row, column, or square that is almost full. Count the letters that are already there.

Step 2: List the missing letters

Check your letters from A to I. Find which ones are not on the list.

  • Example: If a row has A, B, C, E, F, H, and I, then D and G are missing

Step 3: Use logic to find where the letters go

Look at the empty circles in that row or column. Check the nearby squares and columns.

  • If you want to place letter D, look down the column of that empty circle.
  • If that column or square already has a D, you cannot put it there.
  • Put the letter D in the other empty spot instead.

Step 4: Check your work

Every time you fill in a circle, look closely at the grid.

  • Check the row. Is there a duplicate?
  • Check the column. Is there a duplicate?
  • Check the square. Is there a duplicate?

Step 5: Repeat until the board is full

Keep using this logic for other rows, columns, and squares. The game is won when every single circle is filled and no letters are repeated.
